Let’s be real: Penis shaped cakes, feather boas, party busses and fruity drinks aren’t for everyone. That’s not to say there is anything wrong with the above- for some it’s a right- of-passage- a silly and fun evening with your girls. For my best friend Colleen, we had to go non-traditional.
To be frank, she didn’t want any kind of party at all, but as wedding stress began to take hold, we knew we had to force her to have fun with us. Hence: The Un-Bachelorette party.
If you’ve got an untraditional bride on your hands, you probably aren’t a bridesmaid- because she doesn’t have any. So you’ve got to deputize yourself and her other besties as honorary ones. Then decide what she loves and will make her feel special.
The keywords for a typical Bachelorette are: Penis-shaped, thongs, booze, etc. The keywords for Colleen’s Un-Bachelorette are: Relaxation, low-key, unique.
That’s why we decided to surprise Colleen with a mini-getaway to this adorable Basque wagon Airbnb in Sisters. We treated her to some wine spritzers and other treats. We loaded up her favorite indie slow jams and made reservations at The Open Door in Sisters.
We topped off the evening with some killer star-gazing/ secret telling. It was an introvert’s paradise.
When planning a bachelorette, feel free to think outside the box for unconventional brides. Your friend will thank you for creating an experience that is true to her.
