I was recently lucky enough to sit down with Mike Hiatt of Mike Hiatt Photo/Videography to chat with him about his work. We hope you enjoy this little peak into this budding company!
1) How did you get into photography and videography?
In high school I took the video production class and got hooked right away. I spent most of my lunches editing or filming random things around the school. I thought I was more interested in Photography once I finished high school but it didn’t take long for me to realize my true heart and soul was for all things video!
2) What’s it like working as a team with your partner Jess?
I honestly could not do what I do without her! She is always there for me when I need something, anything, all things. Most importantly she keeps me calm and organized. Did I mention her eye for a great shot as well?! I guess the better question would be, what would it be like if I didn’t have Jess as my partner!
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration for me can be found in all the beauty throughout. From people I meet, to the nature around us, there is always a story to be told. I love being able to show everyone the true colors through my perspective.
4) How would you describe your style as an artist?
It’s hard for me to define any art as one certain “style”, because I think every artist has their own process and perspective. If I was going to put one word on what I strive to be, it would be a purest. The stories I tell through my videos are always their own and that is why I don’t believe modifying them to my certain “Style” is necessary. I catch each moment in it’s own and try to keep it at it’s purest moment.
5) What’s your favorite part about working with couples?
Getting to know the couple and their story! I’ve said it before and I will say it again, everyone has their own unique story! Learning about each couple constantly brings joy to my work and betters me and my performance each time.
6) Who is your ideal client?
Anyone that is passionate about the story they want me to capture! When the couple is excited about what they have, my job becomes less staged and more sincere. Oh yeah, and someone that lets us fly the drone over during the ceremony for the ultimate First Kiss shot!
7) What do you want couples who are planning a wedding to know about wedding videography?
I think that wedding videography is easily forgotten. The couple often doesn’t realize how fast their special day goes by! Videography helps capture all the candid and once in a lifetime shots throughout the day. Having things documented will help you relive all those moments for life!
