We recently sat down with Magadalyn Hasse of Bend Weddings and Events to learn more about her company and the wedding planning world. We’re very fortunate to have Magadalyn serve as Director of Development on the Wedding Professionals Association of Central Oregon board. Her depth of knowledge, skills and professionalism are a huge asset to our team. Thanks Magadalyn!
1) How did you get started with wedding planning?
I have been working in the hospitality industry for 18 years now. I’ve done everything from busing tables, managing lodges, managing kitchens, pastry chef and retail management. When I needed to retire from being a pastry chef a friend who is a D.J. here in Bend opened my eyes to the position. I was going to apply for a management position at one of our resorts but he convinced me I would have more fun working as a Coordinator. He was right! I love working with couples.
2) What is your favorite thing about planning weddings?
Watching all the planning unfold and become a reality after months of work.
3) How would you describe your ideal client?
A couple who likes to be unique. I love a wedding that truly represents the couple.
4) Of all of the weddings you have planned, what was your favorite or most unique venue or element?
I would have to say It would be Ray & Veronica’s wedding. They live in Alaska and were on a cycling trip . They had a ride planned to stop at Smith Rock State Park for lunch, and that’s where we planned to have their wedding. They had just a few friends from the ride as witnesses. I hired an officiant, a photographer, appetizers, a small cake and a small bouquet for the bride. It was simple but so beautiful….. so much fun.
5) Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. The couples, how they met, what they do for a living, where they are getting married. Online, magazines, craft stores.
6) Why should couples seriously consider hiring a wedding planner for their big day/ what do you want couples to know about the role you have to play in their day?
When a couple hires Bend Weddings & Events, we sit down and discuss the elements that are most important to the couple and their vision for their wedding. After knowing these details we help the couple find vendors that can help them create their vision and stay within their budget. We help most of our couples save a lot of money, most times we save them more than the pay us! One of my Grooms once exclaimed “You are our Secretary!” It was a great way to look at our services. We help keep our couples on track, making sure the little details are not forgotten and all vendors are hired.
If you decide to do all the planning your self, having a Coordinator on site for the day of is a huge help for the bride. I’ve had Brides say they can do the set up or the Moms plan on helping, but what most forget is they all need to get ready! You have pictures to take and family to greet, there is very little time to take care of all the details! We help with the time lines of vendor deliveries as well as the timeline of the wedding itself. We are the go-to person if any one has questions or needs an extra pair of hands.
