Okay ladies, I am super excited to start this series off with some of my tips! First a little about me: I am Caitlin, I’m a photographer, a workaholic, a perfectionist and also a lover of french wedding fashion. I’ve been engaged to my partner in life and business Tim Gallivan for almost 2 years. We’re getting married at Smith Rock State Park on Sept 17th 2016.
Together Tim and I run Tim Gallivan Photography and our sister brand Wildwood Images. I am also the board chairperson of The Wedding Professionals Association of Central Oregon. My world is so wedding-centric that sometimes I worry about what I will do with myself when our wedding is over!
We are 7 months away from our wedding, and feeling totally on top of it. I have all of my vendors booked and I am so excited about every little detail of the day. I tend toward stress and anxiety in my life, and I am guessing I am not alone. That’s why having a planner was absolutely essential for us.
I think most people view wedding coordination as a luxury, but from my experience (We’ve shot dozens of weddings) a wedding planner can be the difference between a completely stressed out and rushed bride, and one who is totally loving every moment. I’m telling you – a planner should be at the top of your list!
Okay, brides and grooms, let’s get real. We know getting married isn’t cheap. Once I added up my entire budget, I nearly had a heart attack. If you think getting your friend or mom to plan your wedding, set everything up and clean up after the party is done will save you money, think again! Planners pay for themselves and there’s the added benefit of giving your family and friends a stress free and enjoyable day with you!
At my brother’s wedding, my parents were literally scooping goose poop and setting up chairs the entire morning. By the time the wedding came around, they were exhausted and stressed. I vowed to learn from this experience and hire a planner first.
Things my wedding planner has helped me with:
- Creating and sticking to my budget. When I feel weak, my planner is strong.
- Prioritizing where to spend and where to save
- Finding totally chic ways to save and stick to my budget
- Sourcing the best and most reliable vendors within my budget
- Reducing my stress by taking things off my plate
- Handling set-up and clean up on the wedding day. My parents are so happy about this!
- Encouragement and helping me feel excited about the wedding rather than overwhelmed
As a pro, I’ve seen it all. Weddings where the bride completely planned everything all on her own and orchestrated the set-up while she was getting her hair and makeup done and weddings where the bride felt completely supported and was able to let go and enjoy the day. I know that I won’t regret a dime I invested on our wedding planner. It’s the way to go!
